Marlon Lindsay is committed to ensuring that all students receive a comprehensive STEM education.
He is pursuing this goal as the founder of 21stCenturyEd, a company he is growing in the Master of Business Creation (MBC) program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business.
21stCenturyEd helps schools integrate STEM education across all subjects through instructional, intervention, and enrichment strategies and activities that give students the knowledge to coexist with intelligent automated machines created by the convergence of AI, robotics, and automation.
“I was called to education at a time like this. There is no rhyme or reason as to why I got into this work that has activated my abilities and passion in the way evangelizing STEM education has – it’s just my calling,” Lindsay said.
21stCenturyEd’s STEM strategies and engagement initiatives provide lifelong, adaptable skills, “specifically the 4C’s – creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication,” Lindsay said.
“With our formula, STEM Literacy = 4C + 2p, we insert problem-finding and problem-solving as crucial skills so our students can pivot and thrive no matter what life throws their way,” he said.
21stCenturyEd consults, strategizes, and provides schools with a comprehensive STEM education system to prepare students to thrive in a world shaped by AI, robotics, and the ever-evolving automation through intelligent machines.
Lindsay was drawn to the field of educational technology, where his affinity for technology and passion for student success converged, inspiring a plan that would soon come to action. Though he has never taught in the traditional school system beyond being a substitute teacher, he had a distinct goal to impact children’s lives by empowering them to recognize their full potential throughout their lifetime.
In the Master of Business Creation program, Lindsay has been learning skills to bring his company to the next level.
“What’s unique and powerful about the MBC program is that I get to spend a year working on the company while working in it,” he said. “The unique combination of academic and real-world experience from our professors, who are academicians, entrepreneurs, and investors, sets it apart and makes it compelling.”
His company has a global footprint with clients in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Utah. Additionally, the company has a partnership with the island of Jamaica and additional opportunities to expand throughout the Caribbean.
Lindsay and his team have worked to create foundational values within 21stCenturyEd that are core to their culture. These essential principles are love, awareness, discernment, growth, contribution, initiative, and accountability, which guide the creation of their products and services for the sacred responsibility of shaping young minds.
In the coming years, the company wants to ensure that every student gets a comprehensive STEM education. They are consulting with school systems through STEM integration assessments and planning, which are critical to their STEM integration strategy. 21stCenturyEd has a distinct goal to provide STEM resources for students, shift to a STEM culture through professional development for educators, and align with stakeholders within the community to ensure a vibrant 21st-century economy.
